DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF EXPLOSION PREVENTION SYSTEMS

In recent years, the company SMI Sicurezza e Automazione LLC has acquired a considerable know-how in the management of plant protection and insulation against explosion, installed in environments and on processing machinery with the presence of potentially explosive atmospheres due to the presence of combustible dusts, vapours or gas.

On the basis of the acquired know-how, SMI Sicurezza e Automazione LLC is able to design, supply and carry-out the start-up of the explosion protection and isolation plants based on different technologies, starting from passive systems (venting devices, indoor vent, passive mechanical insulation valves), to reach the active type systems, such as chemical suppression and compartmentalization or mechanical isolation through actuated valves.

Thanks to its operational staff, continuously trained through specialized qualification and specialization sessions done by the various manufacturers, it is able to provide an effective and timely service, ensuring ordinary and extraordinary maintenance on the whole package of the proposed technologies.

The experience gained over the years in the “ATEX world” enable SMI Sicurezza e Automazione LLC to offer, among its services, also support and consultancy activities to customers, regarding both the 1999/92/CE Regulation (areas classification, support for the drafting of the “Protection Documents against explosion”) and the 2014/34/UE Regulation (assistance for the construction of the technical dossier for machines and components intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres).

Our systems are used in the food industry, for example in handling combustible powders such as sugar, flour, starch and similar, or in wood processing. Another interest area is the mechanical processing involving metal powders (aluminium alloys, aluminium magnesium), rather than the chemical and pharmaceutical field.

Some examples of plants affected by the explosion risk can be: the road tanker loading stations, the storage silos, the mixers and the mills, the dust collector filters, the drying and screening plants, etc... The danger of potentially explosive powders that are usually processed, associated with an ever increasingly interconnection of the plants, makes it always more important for an adequate system of protection and insulation against explosions, to protect people’s safety first and secondly to protect economic assets (plant integrity, continuity of production lines, etc…)
